Background

Bill was admitted as a Solicitor in 1994. After having completed his training contract he worked 4 years with an East London firm as an assistant solicitor before setting up Matwala Vyas Solicitors together with Mr Alkesh Vyas in 1998. Bill handles both family and criminal law cases.

Family Law

Bill is an accredited member of the Family Law Panel, a member of Resolution and a senior partner in the firm. He handles all types of family law cases and has a particular interest in financial remedy matters. Bill has acted for wives, husbands and non-married couples, often involving complex and high net worth cases involving multi millions of pounds. He has also represented family members of divorcing couples, such as parents and siblings who have become embroiled in financial disputes regarding matrimonial and family property.

Bill is a strong negotiator, proactive, and acts with sensitivity and commitment towards his clients. He is also a strong litigator if needs require. As a member of Resolution, he is committed to the guidelines set down by Resolution to resolve cases as amicably, fairly and cost-effectively as possible.


Criminal law

Bill is a member of the Law Society’s Criminal Litigation and Accreditation Scheme and is the head of the Criminal Law Department. He handles complex and high profile cases where his clients have been accused of serious offences,  including murder, fraud, gang-related and drug offences.

Background

Sundeep is a partner in the Property Department. Sundeep joined Matwala Vyas in 1998 and has many years’ experience in residential and commercial property law.

Having completed his legal training, Sundeep qualified as a solicitor from Matwala Vyas LLP. Sundeep played a key role in the firm’s Lexcel and Coveyancing Quality Scheme Accreditation.

Sundeep’s clients range from first-time buyers to corporate investors, and he has acted for local developers, landlords, tenants, occupiers, partnerships and companies over the years.

Davinder Sehmi

Background

Davinder was admitted as a Solicitor in August 2003.  He worked at Matwala Vyas LLP until May 2006 and then joined another specialist family practice in East London.

Davinder returned to Matwala Vyas LLP in December 2008 as a Partner and is Head of the firm’s Public Law Children Department.

Profile

Davinder is a specialist Family Solicitor undertaking work in all aspects of family law including divorce, separation, financial proceedings and both Private & Public Law Children matters.  He is a member of the Law Society Children Panel and is regularly instructed by parents, guardians and children in complex proceedings.

Davinder represents husbands, wives, civil partners and interveners in financial proceedings following divorce/dissolution of civil partnerships and specialises in cases involving high net assets, family businesses, trusts, tracing assets in foreign jurisdictions, pre-nuptial/separation agreements and cohabitation disputes between unmarried couples.

Davinder undertakes his own advocacy in the majority of his cases and regularly appears in the Family Court at all levels and the High Court.

Surinder Chana

Surinder has in recent years specialised in all aspects of advising clients in Family Law.

Surinder is a member Resolution and committed to promoting a constructive approach to family issues that consider the needs of the whole family. She has experience in obtaining and defending against injunctions where there are allegations of violence by one partner against the other.

Surinder represents parties in financial proceedings following divorce/dissolution of civil partnerships as well as interveners.

She is a member of the Law Society Children Panel and is regularly instructed by parents, Guardians and children and undertakes the majority of her own Advocacy at all levels of Court.

Background

Michael qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and was made a salaried partner in a local law firm. He joined us in 2009.

Michael practises in most areas of civil litigation, with an emphasis on property and commercial matters, acting for both individuals and companies.

Michael also receives instructions in divorce matters, primarily dealing with the assets of the marriage.

Michael has come through the rank and file, having worked in the West End and Central London for over 10 years and has been involved in a number of notable reported international cases.

Michael’s cases are: Hunt v. Abbresse (1996), Courtney Lodge Management Ltd v. Blake & Others (2004) All ER 30 and a recent case is E.surv v. Rahman & Others (2006), which involved a multi-million pound asset recovery claim, freezing and search orders in an allegedly multi-party mortgage fraud.

Michael moved to this area in 1994 and has developed a client base locally and internationally.

Waqqas Malik

Background

Waqqas has an outstanding academic background and joined the firm in 2007. Waqqas deals with both family and criminal law cases and is fluent in Urdu.

Waqqas has represented clients at all levels and specialises in the following areas:-

Waqqas has experience of defending a wide range of offences in single and multi-handed cases, including sexual offences, serious violent assaults, drug supply, dishonesty and fraud, child abuse/neglect and road traffic law.

Waqqas has defended a diverse variety of people including youths, parents, partners, people in positions of trust, vulnerable clients with mental health problems, gang members and celebrities.

Over the years Waqqas has developed particular expertise in complex sexual cases and serious violent assaults. He has defended cases of multiple rapes, historical sexual allegations involving family members, offences concerning children and numerous cases involving serious violence including appeal work in murder cases.

Alkesh Vyas

Background

Alkesh speaks fluent Gujarati, Hindi and Urdu. He comes from an accountancy background and was admitted as a Solicitor in August 1996.

Having completed his training contract with an East London firm he worked for 2 years as an assistant solicitor before setting up Matwala Vyas LLP Solicitors together with Mr Bill Matwala in 1998.

Alkesh previously handled all types of property work, ranging from freeholds, leaseholds and commercial to residential, acting for landlords, tenants, licensees and occupiers.

He is a consultant with the firm and now predominantly conducts Criminal Law cases. Alkesh is a member of the Law Society Criminal Litigation and Accreditation Scheme and assists the Criminal Law Department as duty solicitor in local police stations and Magistrate Courts.

He handles all types of criminal cases ranging from serious crime and youth offences to driving offences.

Alkesh is available day or night for advice of an urgent nature.
